Orthodontists are trained to look not just at your teeth and bite but, also at the balance of your face and jaw positions. Some patients may request for an improvement in their facial appearance, in non-growing patients this may be achieved through surgically altering jaw positions in combination with orthodontic treatment. For other patients a change in facial appearance is not a primary goal however, jaw surgery may be required to allow full bite correction and better functional balance.
